WebEx: From Good to Bad

April 26th, 2007 by James Sullivan | Filed under Blog.

WebEx was acquired by Cisco. So, before they do their re-branding I’d like to offer an overview of their services:

  • Service outages don’t happen often, only a few times per month!
  • Customer support doesn’t speak English, so if you speak their language you’re in luck, you have a native speaker!
  • If you like surprises you are in luck! Upgrades are completely unannounced!
  • Intel Macs are not supported as a presenter so if you’re a Mac user you don’t have to worry about people asking you to present!
  • The meeting invitation times are USUALLY correct… so you don’t usually have to tell people to ignore the WebEx stated time and use another time.

    Hi Bobby,

All I can say is “Come on over and try out Yugma (http://www.yugma.com)!” We have a high-quality real-time fully interactive web conferencing service that comes in a basic free-forever version, as well as premium services (we can save you 80% over the traditional players). Our
Customer Support speaks English. We don’t suprize our customers. Intel Macs are supported as a presenter!!! So if you’re a Mac user you don’t have to worry about people asking you to present!
The meeting invitations are always correct. And finally, Yugma is super easy to use. Give is a try and let me know what you think.

    Hi Bobby!

You’re right. WebEx is pretty bad. We’ve also tried GatherPlace which was equally annoying. I think the worst part of any of these is a lack of automatic reconnection when you’re on a flaky T1 that’s being saturated and dropping packets. *grumble*

I dig the blog you’ve got going! :) I was also eyeing that UI Engineer position at BlackDuck. Hmmm…

    Hope to see you soon!
